Platform Works at Home but Not on Your Work Network? A Security Gateway May Be Blocking It

You try to open the platform from your office network.

The page doesn’t load.

Sometimes a warning page appears.

Sometimes the connection is simply refused.

Yet the same platform opens normally at home.

Same device.

Same browser.

The only difference is the company network.

In many cases, the platform itself isn’t down.

Your company security gateway may be filtering the connection.

What a Security Gateway Does on Corporate Networks

Many corporate networks route traffic through security gateways.

These systems analyze outgoing and incoming connections.

  • Blocking unapproved platforms
  • Scanning traffic for threats
  • Enforcing company access policies
  • Monitoring external network activity

If a platform is classified as restricted, the gateway blocks the connection before it reaches the service.

Why Some Platforms Are Blocked

Corporate security systems often restrict platforms that fall outside approved business tools.

This may include new SaaS services, external collaboration tools, or file-sharing platforms.

Even legitimate services can be blocked if they are not listed in the company’s approved platform list.

Signs a Security Gateway Is Causing the Issue

  • The platform works on mobile data
  • The same site opens on home Wi-Fi
  • Only the company network blocks access
  • A security or policy message appears

These signs usually indicate that the corporate security gateway is restricting the platform.

What You Can Do

  • Ask your IT team whether the platform is allowed
  • Request access approval for the service
  • Try accessing the platform from another network

If the restriction is enforced by the company security gateway, only administrators can modify the policy.

If a platform works everywhere except your company network,

the service usually isn’t the issue.

The corporate security gateway may simply be blocking the connection.
